Why chrome is downloading texted files

 · When I try to open a web PDF file, I just get a blank/black screen. "Automatic download" is turned off already, so that is not the problem. This just started happening today for no apparent reason. If I go to another browser, the pdf file will open. If I go to incognito, it will open. Sometimes if I use Acrobat it will open. My Chrome (running on Mac) freezes if I download to any folder other than Downloads. I seem to have found the culprit in my case. The problem is Avast Security's File Shield. If that is on, I get the crashing behavior. If I turn it off, it works. Google user. recommended this. Original Poster. Whenever I download an "unsafe" file, I simply press 'Keep Dangerous File'. It works, but 3 seconds later, it gets deleted. I do not know if this is on Windows' end or Google Chrome's end. I need help. Thanks, Google Community!

Chrome apparently (sometimes) decides to use "sniffing" logic when the content-type is text/plain. Possible workarounds: Send the X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff header. If the text is Unicode, include a BOM. This will tell the sniffing logic that it really is text. Remove "binary looking" bytes from the file. Answer (1 of 2): First update your IDM to latest version and then Whatever browser you using update it. Also disable browser integration in IDM settings and then enable it. Sometimes Windows 10 saves JPG files as JFIF files. It seems to happen most often when saving images in browsers but doesn't seem to be limited to them. The cause of the issue is an incorrect file association in the registry which appeared after the Windows 10 Creators update.

User Case: Google Chrome Won't Download Files Anymore "Why won't Google Chrome let me download files anymore? I used to download email attachments, pictures and music very easily. Since last week, it's no longer downloading any type of file from any website. What's the matter?" Google Chrome is so simple and powerful that everyone loves it. These errors mean that Chrome couldn't save the file to your computer. To fix the error: Cancel the download and try again. Instead of clicking the file to download, right-click the link and select. Then, the file automatically opens instead of saving when I download in Chrome. To change this setting, start by clicking the "Tools" icon on your Chrome browser. (Updated 7/17/ - click the 3 DOTS icon) When you click on the three small lines dots (tools icon), you'll see a dropdown box appear. Click on "Settings" and you'll see a new page.
